   Having now finished Regal’s 2022 Anniversary special in one go, hands down it has chosen some fantastic stories by Tony DePaul; my personal favorites are ‘THE RAT MUST DIE’ & ‘THE VISITOR’, in-fact the story ‘Visitor’ has the very spirit of the movie ‘The Thing’ by legendary director John Carpenter

   Regal 2022 Anniversary Trade Paper Back : So impressed by the art of Jeff Weigel . Reminds me of Brian Bolland’s and Pradeep Sathe’s art , though Bolland uses more fine lines . Jeff’s attention to the intricate background details and the perfect anatomy of the characters are amazing and made the stories so enjoyable . Infact I take more time reading the panels analaysing all the background details in each , before moving to next panel . I love doing that 😊 . For comparison, Terry Beatty’s art doesn’t focus on the background, but rather the foreground characters only . Jeff’s take on the modern version of the Phantom is really visible in his art . In the Rat must die ( 2017 ) the villain’s cars and SUVs are Maserati GranTousrismo and Levante 😊.
   The Wiseguy was drawn by Terry Beatty , while Rat must die ( 2017) , The Vigil at phantom head ( 2020) and the Visitor ( 2021) were done by Jeff Weigel . I loved the two stories The Rat .. and Vigil ..better compared to the other two . With Jeff’s art and Tony De Paul’s Phantom slowly moving to a global travelling vigilante against corruption , underworld etc in the current era ie 2020s , rather than a jungle hero focusing usually on jungle issues , will make the Phantom more relevant in the modern times along with other superheroes , also for new readers ; rather than just a nostalgia factor for old readers 👍
